Quality vs. Price

“The bitterness of poor quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory.”
                                      ~ Aldo Gucci

I saw this quote today on the waiting room wall of my auto repair shop.  It reminded me of a few conversations I had at the recent Warwick Chamber Business Expo.  Several mothers were commenting that they had family photos done in the past, and the experience they had was horrible.   A little further into the conversation, it became clear that they had chosen their photographer based on the price of the packages offered, not by the quality of the photographer's work or the experience or education of the photographer.  In every case, they were disappointed both with the photos and with the experience.  In many cases, they had not had a family photo taken since.

We show our clients at their first consultation with us the artistry and the quality of the work they will receive.  We have framed canvas prints from previous clients displayed on the wall, and samples of albums for browsing.  By meeting with our clients at a consultation before their session we get to know them well enough to provide a pleasant and fun experience!

Spring is in full swing now, flowers and trees are blooming and the grass is once again green.  Call us to schedule your family for an environmental portrait!

"Listening to Your Clients"

The one trait that separates an "ok" photographer from a really great artist is the ability to listen to your clients and flesh out what their desires truly are.  Some clients are more challenging in this respect than others.  A perfect example is Turkelson who came to me for a studio session on Wednesday.

We started the session with a lengthy discussion of the precise persona Mr. Turk wanted to portray.....

Then after several attempts at hair and make up along with some lighting adjustments, we achieved the perfect portrait.

I really enjoy spending time with my clients, getting to know them, and being able to deliver the perrrr-fect portrait to grace their walls.

Many thanks to Mitch Eckler,  Apex Photograhy for his assistance on the set.

Stay tuned for some helpful hints on photographing your own family and pets!  We will be starting a second session of digital photography classes in the Hudson Valley in May.
